I want to make this update as smooth as possible for my clients. Do you know if QuickBooks R8 is the current software download for new installations or re-installations? if a client installed R7 then did the manual "fix" that Charlie Russell mentioned in one of his blog articles (rename and replace a DLL file), will they need to uninstall QuickBooks, rename the remaining QuickBooks folders (thus a "clean" uninstall), and then download and install QuickBooks with R8? if a client downloaded but did not install R7, what happens? Will the R8 download (manually or automatic when it becomes available)? Will it ignore the R7? Or do they have to install the R7 they downloaded and then R8 will fix it? With this new release update, I'm looking for the following answers: Glad an update is available and am keeping my fingers cross that it will be "clean".

The R8 update is also supposed to prevent 3rd party software from experiencing Unrecoverable Errors or Sync Errors.īecause I am recommending that you NOT download or install this R8 update at present, I have elected NOT to include the update link (URL) to the Intuit Support website.

Intuit indicates that the Release 8 patch will resolve the problems associated with 'billable time', returning the product functionality to where time is sorted by the transaction date posted on the time entry, not any other behind the scenes methodology. Reportedly this R8 product update fixes the 'bugs' within the R7 maintenance release, and those also contained in subsequent 'fixes' pushed out to repair R7 update errors. As a result of the large number of errors associated with the last few 'maintenance updates', I am recommending that you hold-off downloading and/or installing this update until sufficient time permits testing to determine if any 'programming bugs' exist with this product patch. As of the date of this publication, the update is for 'manual download' however, Intuit has gotten where they begin 'auto updating' QuickBooks and/or pushing out the updates within just a day or two of the manual update post. Intuit has posted the QuickBooks-2013 R8 maintenance update to their technical support website for product updates. Is QB-2013 R8 safe for install, who knows?
